Robert Ceperley
Robert "Bob" Ceperley
1925 ~ 2017

Robert H. "Bob" Ceperley went to be with the Lord, peacefully surrounded by his family on August 1, 2017. He was born September 18, 1925 in Davenport, Iowa to William A. and Elizabeth Guy Ceperley. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1943 and then entered military service. Following basic training he became a Platoon Sergeant in an Infantry replacement training center at Camp Blanding, Florida for a year and a half and then spent a year overseas with a Quartermaster Company in Paris, France where he earned the rank of first Sergeant.

Discharged in February 1947, he entered Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1950. He spent five summers as program director for YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln in Davenport, while attending the Theological Seminary of the University of Dubuque, graduating with a B.D. degree and being ordained June 9, 1954.
On Thanksgiving Day of that year he married Elta A. Hudgens in Davenport and to this union six children were born. Bob served as Associate Pastor of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Storm Lake, Iowa for four years before accepting a call on October 19, 1958 to be Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Maryville, Missouri. He served this church for 32 years, retiring January 1, 1991. Following retirement he continued to serve area churches until the Fall of 2011.

Bob enjoyed sports, especially bowling, softball and volleyball. His church softball teams were always competitive and his volleyball was serious business. An avid bowler, he was Secretary-Treasurer of the Maryville Bowling Association for 11 years, and was in the initial class inducted into the MBA Hall of Fame in May 1990. He wrote a bowling column for the Maryville Daily Forum for 15 years and was President of the Monday Young-at-Heart League for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Richard and William, his twin sister Betty; his wife of 42 years, Elta, on December 29, 1996.

Survivors include five sons: David, Stanberry, Mark (Susan) Lee's Summitt and Tim, Lee's Summit, Jeff (Robin), Springfield and Mike, Maryville; daughter Jennifer (Cletus) Schieber, Maryville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday, August 4th, with Funeral Services at 10 AM Saturday, August 5th, both at the Maryville First Presbyterian Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
